This is one of the flagship awards of the Research Capacity Development Sub-Directorate of the MRC. The Career Development Programme is a partnership between the MRC and the tertiary education sector. The purpose thereof is to build research capacity and scientific leadership by creating new positions for senior post-doctoral scientists that have demonstrated a potential to become established researchers. The award is for a period of 2 years, starting in January 2013 and renewable for a further 2 years subject to satisfactory progress and availability of funds. The value of the MRC Career Development Award is R250, 000.00 per annum. The MRC will host an official function at the to honour the recipients of this prestigious award.
