The Centre for Evidence-based Health Care (CEBHC) is a coordinating and directive institution for research and training of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University, in the field of evidence-based health care. Located within the Division of Biostatics and Epidemiology, Department of Global Health, the mission of the CEBHC is to be a Centre of Excellence in Africa in evidence synthesis and knowledge translation in health through innovation, collaboration and distinction in research. This includes conducting and supporting relevant systematic reviews and primary research for evidence-informed health care; enhancing evidence-informed healthcare knowledge, skills and practices through teaching healthcare professionals and other stakeholders; promoting the uptake of current best evidence in healthcare policy and practice; and promoting the optimal functioning and sustainable growth of the CEBHC.
A postdoctoral research opportunity has arisen in the CEBHC for a period of one year. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct and support methodologically sound evidence synthesis and research on priority topics linked to nutrition and knowledge translation (KT).
Applicants for this postdoctoral research fellowship must hold a doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, or a related health science discipline (obtained in the past 5 years); and must provide proof of this at the time of application. Candidates should have research methods expertise and a track record of publications in peer-reviewed literature. Knowledge and practice in critical appraisal, as well as a publication history in systematic reviews is advantageous. The fellowship will involve mentorship in evidence synthesis and knowledge translation, with an expectation to complete related training and courses. The appointed person will be based at the CEBHC, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University (Tygerberg campus). Candidates who are not South African citizens should have the required documents to be able to study in South Africa (validity of documents should cover the full duration of the fellowship).
Key activities:
- To identify priority topics, conduct and support evidence synthesis and research on priority nutrition and knowledge translation issues.
- To carry out other duties consistent with a postdoctoral research fellowship of this nature.
- To abide by Stellenbosch University’s policies, rules and procedures for postdoctoral research fellows as well as to codes of conduct and rules governing research results, research materials, and intellectual property.
